Turning Thirty: A Crossroads in My Artistic Journey

As I turned the corner into my 30s last month, a wave of introspection washed over me, prompting me to re-evaluate my current path and the trajectory of my life. I found myself questioning the balance between my full-time office job and my lifelong passion for art.

The idea of spending countless hours working just to make ends meet, while dedicating my limited free time to my true calling, seemed unsustainable. Art had always been more than a hobby; it was my therapy, my sanctuary, and the driving force behind my creative spirit.

Reaching this milestone, like many others at this age, triggered a profound reflection on my accomplishments and aspirations. Was I content with a life where my soul-consuming day job dominated my time, leaving limited opportunities to pursue my artistic dreams? Or was it time to take that leap of faith and dedicate myself fully to the passion that fueled my soul?

This introspective journey forced me to re-examine my approach as an artist. While I'd been content to paint what I loved and focus on social media marketing, I questioned if simply maintaining the status quo would yield the desired results. Was I naive to believe that overnight success would magically land me in galleries and exhibitions?

With renewed determination, I embarked on a quest to broaden my artistic horizons. I delved into the world of galleries, immersing myself in the history of art and the lives of renowned artists. I learned about the importance of attending gallery openings and networking with individuals in the art scene. Until recently, I didn't even know what a curator did!

This newfound knowledge opened my eyes to a whole new dimension of the art world, exposing me to the intricacies of the art market and the challenges faced by aspiring artists. While it was daunting to face the realities of the industry, it also fueled my determination to succeed.

Writing a blog was never something I considered myself capable of, but with the aid of AI, I discovered a powerful tool to organize my thoughts and share my artistic journey with the world. It has been a cathartic experience, allowing me to connect with others who share my passion for art.

I recognize that making a full-time commitment to art will require sacrifices and unwavering dedication. Living in Lisbon, with its rising inflation and soaring rent, has added its own set of challenges. I've spent my savings on art materials, often working late into the evenings when the oil paint dries slower due to the cold weather.

Despite these obstacles, I remain undeterred. Turning 30 has ignited a spark within me, fueling my ambition to turn my passion into a sustainable career. I'm excited to share my progress with you, and I'm confident that this year will mark a significant step forward in my artistic journey.

I hope this article resonates with fellow artists who face similar challenges and inspires them to pursue their dreams with unwavering passion. The path to success may be arduous, but the rewards are immeasurable. I encourage you to embrace your creativity, stay true to your vision, and never give up on your aspirations.
